An intimate special event venue, The Soiled Dove Underground is located below The Tavern Lowry. When national and regional talent are not performing, the Dove is a unique space for private events and corporate meetings.

Capacity

There are many ways we can arrange the room depending on the size and type of performance or event.
250 - 300 Table and Drink Rail Seating
375 - 400 Auditorium Seating
450 Standing Room with Drink Rail Only
100 - 220 Banquet Seating

Unobstructed views are the key to this intimate special event venue. The ceiling was constructed using a post-tensioning method, which eliminated the need for vertical support beams typically obstructing views in like-size venues. Guests are able to see the stage from any vantage point with absolutely no obstructions in between.

Three levels of tiered seating are arranged in a semicircle of concentric rows facing the stage, with no seat farther than 45 feet from the stage. The semicircle directly in front of the stage is dropped nearly three feet below stage level, allowing guests seated behind clear views of the stage. This area can also serve as a dance floor when desired. Two large corner decks overlook the entire span of the room.

A large, full-service bar is located in the foyer, and a multifunctional display counter for performer or host to use is located off the main floor. Restrooms are located close by in a nook off the main room, and the green room for performers opens directly onto the stage.

No expense has been spared in planning the acoustics in the room. A premium custom sound system will bring performances to the audience with extraordinary warmth and clarity. The walls and ceiling are concrete, up to a few feet thick in some areas, and there is a state of the art acoustic barrier that bounces sound back into the room.

That same barrier also prevents sound from escaping outside The Soiled Dove Underground. We wanted to make sure that our guests in The Tavern Lowry upstairs wouldn’t hear a thing from the concerts below.

A/V amenities include:

Martin Intelligent Lighting System
Equipped for DVD, CD and VHS media
Soundproof booth for recording presentations and performances
Two 12-foot Media Screens
Standard and Wireless Microphones
Computer and laptop compatible
Advertising screens throughout the venue

Display Nook

Have specialty items or silent auction goods to display? Inside the venue we provide a glass display cases for client use.

Parking

Several hundred parking spaces are available in the lot surrounding The Tavern at Lowry and The Soiled Dove Underground, as well as adjacent lots. And the best part is, it’s all free.

History of The Soiled Dove

Believe it or not, it all started back in the 1800’s, in Denver’s heart of sin where parlor houses, cheap hotels, opium dens and brothels lined Holladay Street between 19th Street and 23rd Street. The corner of 20th and Holladay (which is now Market Street) was home to high-class women of the night -- Lily the Fox, Hook and Ladder Kate, and Liver-lip Lou, to name a few. These prostitutes and painted ladies were called “brides of multitude,” “nymphs of frailty” and “soiled doves.”

Fast forward to 1996, to a turn-of-the-century building on the corner of 20th and Market. Frank Schultz and Al and Terry Papay bought the place and opened a dueling piano bar, naming it “The Soiled Dove” to reflect the heritage and history of this infamous LoDo district. After trying out live music now and again for a few years, The Soiled Dove changed to an all live-music format in 1999. An intimate room for a concert, The Soiled Dove became a favorite for audiences and artists alike. Talented and diverse artists such as Bruce Hornsby, Lisa Loeb and Shawn Mullins have played “The Dove” over the years.

While the name fit well with this indulgent district of LoDo, the needs of a concert venue didn’t. Parking could be hard to find, the acoustics were a challenge and space was downright tight. In 2006, The Dove flew the coop to a (bigger nest) more spacious, central location below The Tavern at Lowry in the Lowry Landmark Urban Community.

In a nod to The Dove’s new basement digs, the word “Underground” was added to the name. The Soiled Dove Underground is a bit more selective in booking artists, focusing on private events and only bringing high-quality entertainment to the area when available.
