Show: 8:00PM

***REMAINING TICKETS ARE FOR STANDING ROOM ONLY IN THE BACK OF THE VENUE***

Many people who heard Over the Rhine had the strong intuition from the very beginning that their songs were going to be around for a long time. A few months after their first show at Sudsy's in Cincinnati, Over the Rhine landed a publishing deal with MCA and received an invitation to open a handful of shows around the Midwest for Bob Dylan. They toured 25 cities with Adrian Belew on their first national tour, and played at festivals in Holland and England. Offers for record deals came in shortly thereafter and, after ten recordings, Over the Rhine has won the respect of many of their peers. One rewarding development was an invitation vocalist/guitarist Karin Bergquist and pianist Linford Detweiler received to become honorary members of the Cowboy Junkies. This special creative collaboration continued for three years and included extensive recording sessions. Canadian singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan also made a special effort to meet Karin and let her know that she was a fan. Over the Rhine and their music have been referenced by name in such prime time television shows as The X-Files and Angel, and their songs have been heard on Third Watch, Felicity, Jack and Bobby and Mysterious Ways, as well as on international compilations alongside artists such as Radiohead, Coldplay, and Dido.

Harmonies - if you had to describe the music of Girlyman in one word, this would be it. The story doesn't end there, of course: the band blends modern acoustic, americana, and folk-rock into a musical recipe The Village Voice has called "really good, really unexpected, and really different." The wide range of instruments - acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, djembe, electric baritone guitar - reflects an eclectic sound, and the band members switch off lead vocals and songwriting duties. But it is the stunning three-part vocal blend that creates the Girlyman magic. Girlyman (Nate Borofsky, Doris Muramatsu, and Ty Greenstein) hails from Atlanta, GA, though they formed the band while sharing an apartment in Brooklyn, NY. In 2004, Amy Ray signed Girlyman to her indie label, Daemon Records, and the following years brought long opening runs with Dar Williams and the Indigo Girls. The band now has a strong national following of its own, and spends a lot of time criss-crossing the country, playing to intensely loyal "girlyfans" who often travel hundreds of miles to see shows. In the past year, as headliners, Girlyman has sold out renowned venues such as The Barns at Wolftrap, The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, and The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA.

From the opening track "Someone Somewhere" through the closer "The End", singer-songwriter Jason Reeves' wrote the album The Magnificent Adventures of Heartache (and Other Frightening Tales). Originally available online and at his shows only, the album's beauty and raw honesty connected with listeners and earned a "Top Folk Album of 2007" distinction from iTunes, which also named Reeves one of the Top Indie Singer-Songwriters of that year. Now signed to Warner Bros. Records, which will widely distribute his album for the first time, Reeves's own story continues, one that remains as pure as his outlook on life and music as it ever was.

A singer-songwriter who accompanies himself on piano, James began writing the songs on his second album after winding up a year and a half on the road in support of his debut album The Day is Brave, which was released by Decca Records in June 2008 and debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Several of its songs were featured on various television shows including Private Practice, Bones, So You Think You Can Dance, and Army Wives. After releasing the album, James hit the ground running to support it from coast to coast. "I went to 40 states, ate at 330 restaurants, stayed in 210 hotels, and slept on one boat - John Mayer's Mayercraft Cruise; I know because I wrote it all down," James says with a laugh. The 18-month tour enabled James (whom Entertainment Weekly has called "a songwriter on the rise") to build his fanbase the way many successful musicians have done before him: one room at a time, and he shares the fruits of that journey - renewed vigor, musical maturity, and even a new sound - on his second album.

Jimmie Vaughan is far more than just one of the greatest and most respected guitarists in the world of popular music. As Guitar Player Magazine notes, "He is a virtual deity--a living legend." After all, Vaughan provides a vital link between contemporary music and its proud heritage, as well as being a longtime avatar of retro cool. Since releasing his first solo album in 1994, he has set the standard for quality modern roots music. Throughout his career, Vaughan has earned the esteem of his legendary guitar-playing heroes and superstar peers along with successive generations of young players. His musical ethos and personal style have had an impact on contemporary culture, from spearheading the current blues revival with The Fabulous Thunderbirds to his longtime, innate fashion sense of slicked-back hair and sharp vintage threads (now seen throughout the pages of contemporary fashion journals) to becoming a premier designer of classic custom cars. But for Jimmie Vaughan, none of it is part of a crusade or a career plan. It's just his natural way of living his life and pursuing the interests that have captivated Vaughan since his youth.

More than a decade ago, guitarist and vocalist Steve Oliver burst onto the contemporary jazz scene with a sound so fresh, so positive, so bright, that he immediately became a favorite on radio stations with songs like "West End" and "Highway One." The Weather Channel loved his music so much it put "Right Direction" into heavy rotation during its local weather breaks. Smooth Jazz News magazine named Oliver its Debut Artist of the Year. Now, after four studio CDs, a Christmas project and a CD that captured his infectious live-on-stage energy, Oliver returns with Global Kiss on SOM Entertainment. As the title makes clear, Global Kiss expands Oliver's repertoire with its world-music energy while retaining the lyrical melodies and song hooks that have made him a fan favorite. "The concept is of global influence and world music, how you can put that flavor into jazz and R&B tunes," says Oliver, who commissioned contemporary jazz saxophonist and graphic artist Marion Meadows to design the CD's bright and inspiring cover. "The CD touches on different cultures, from Brazil, India, the Middle East, America, Europe. I've always loved taking different styles of music and blending them into a cohesive vibe. That's always attracted me as a listener, as well."

The first sound you'll hear on oh little fire is a high-pitched keening, like the shrieking of an unattended phone, or the distant skirling of a ghost on a winter night. Suddenly, Sarah Harmer's band kicks in, with drums propelling a gust of rock more forceful than anything she's played since her mid-'90s days with rambunctious Kingston rockers Weeping Tile. She sings with a sense of purpose: "A new wind will blow through everything / Through everything I know." On oh little fire, her first album in five years, Harmer sounds reinvigorated and positively charged. In the years after touring her last studio release, the Polaris Prize-nominated I'm a Mountain, she set music aside to focus on political and environmental campaigns, helping to shepherd PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land), the organization she co-founded. Only on occasion did she venture into the studio, lending backup vocals to artists such as Neko Case, Howie Beck, and Great Lake Swimmers. Her own music and lyrics were waiting for the opportune time to burst out: as she sings on "Careless," "All the words that I've held too close to my chest / Are calling on me now to get through."

For Chris and Oliver Wood, music has always been a family affair. Raised in Boulder, Colorado by a Harvard-trained microbiologist father and a poet mother, The Wood Brothers grew up immersed in music. Their father was part of the late 1950's Boston-Cambridge folk revival scene and played with Joan Baez and introduced his sons to the world of folk and country music. The Wood brothers wrote and played together growing up, then wound up on divergent paths in pursuit of their individual music careers. Oliver moved to Atlanta where he embraced the blues/ rock music scene and fronted the band King Johnson, while Chris ended up in the vibrant, underground music scene of New York City and is bassist and one third of the improvisational trio, Medeski Martin & Wood. It wasn't until 2003, when Chris and Oliver shared the same stage as part of a King Johnson/ Medeski Martin & Wood double bill, that they realized there was potential for a duo project. As Chris recalls, "Oliver sat in with us - he just played guitar, didn't sing but he was so good and so familiar. Even though we'd been pursuing music in two very different worlds, we shared a perspective that made our collaboration feel really natural." In 2004 Chris and Oliver began working up songs, retreated for writing sessions and in March 2006, released their debut album, Ways Not to Lose on Blue Note Records. The songs - sung and largely composed by Oliver Wood - possessed a timeless quality. There were echoes of country blues, Appalachian bluegrass and New Orleans R&B. Oliver's vocals were set within expressive arrangements created by his guitar riffs and Chris' nimble, note-bending bass lines. It is a spare and raw album, a "loose reimagining of American roots styles...earthy, acoustic original songs spiced with a shot of hipster irreverence," said Rolling Stone. The twelve tracks comprising Ways Not to Lose embodied a tinge of sadness and struggle but also a strong spirit of resilience and fortitude.

Carl Palmer, among the most celebrated drummers in Rock History, is preparing to embark on a solo North American tour with his own band. Entitled: "Carl Palmer & His Band - Celebrates The Music of Emerson Lake & Palmer," the show features bold new arrangements of many of the best-loved instrumental music of ELP. "I am very excited to be returning to the US and Canada with my new solo band performing an evening of ELP music," says Palmer. "I will be returning with another power trio, but this time, we have replaced the keyboards with electric guitar. I felt that was the only honest way to approach the music of ELP. I didn't want to have a singer trying to sound like Greg Lake. ELP did so much instrumental music, this format made sense to me. Hearing the keyboard parts done on guitar will certainly surprise many fans, I think." The group, which features Palmer on drums and percussion; guitarist Paul Bielatowicz and bassist Simon Fitzpatrick; will serve up an evening of classic ELP music, presented with exciting and innovative new versions. An all-instrumental show, "Carl Palmer Celebrates The Music of ELP" promises to be among the most musically compelling live shows of 2010. Palmer has released three solo albums since the last ELP tour 1998. They are: DO YA WANNA PLAY?, a 2 CD anthology and WORKING LIVE VOL 1 and Vol 2. They have all been released on Sanctuary Records. Palmer is planning on meeting fans after each show and signing merchandise at most venues. "I want to get close to my fans once again," says Palmer. "There are so many of them out there who are really heartfelt and have supported me through my entire career. I very much look forward to bringing it all back around again in intimate venues." The Carl Palmer Band will play nearly two hours and drum enthusiasts can expect an evening of compelling percussive theatrics, from the man who brought the drum set to the forefront of rock n roll music.

The Subdudes
with Special Guest

Genre: Rock
Doors: 7:00PM
Show: 8:00PM

Over the course of 20 years and eight albums, the subdudes have quietly become one of America's national music treasures. The New Orleans-formed group is a living encapsulation of American music, a vibrant cauldron of sounds that stirs together meaty grooves and jazzy dynamics, souful R&B swagger, easy vocal harmonies, cheeky rock 'n' roll attitude and folky social consciousness -- not to mention some of the sharpest musicianship and ensemble playing you'll ever hear from any five musicians. It's tight enough to be loose, but never gratuitously sloppy.
